Billie Dupree is a flight instructor at an old Texas airport. When a young girl in a wheelchair finds the airport by watching gliders fly, she decides she wants to learn how to fly. Dupree teaches her to fly with some special controls compensating for her handicap. Koup Trenton runs an aircraft repair service and is trying desperately to get an old airplane back in the air. The three, together, put the young girl and the old plane up in the air.

Mauro is a surfer used to challenging the ocean’s most massive waves. However, an accident forces him into a long rehabilitation, distancing him from the sea and the life he loved. While at the clinic, he meets Federico, a young athlete suffering from ataxia and confined to a wheelchair, yet possessed of an extraordinary life force. An unexpected friendship blossoms between them, leading Mauro to make an impulsive decision: to escape the routine and set off with Federico on an unconventional journey. A comic study of 20th-century history, reconstructing the life of writer, creator and professional prisoner Tulse Luper. Born in 1911 Newport and last heard of in 1989, Luper’s life is pieced together from the evidence found in 92 suitcases scattered across the globe. When car dealer Charlie Babbitt learns that his estranged father has died, he returns home to Cincinnati, where he discovers that he has a savant older brother named Raymond and that his father's $3 million fortune is being left to the mental institution in which Raymond lives. Motivated by his father's money, Charlie checks Raymond out of the facility in order to return with him to Los Angeles. The brothers' cross-country trip ends up changing both their lives.
