Father Cyril Nouvel has mysteriously disappeared. Yet it is at his initiative that his brother, Gendarme Louis Nouvel, and his mentor, Abbé Gomis, find themselves gathered at the site of an abandoned old fort. As they set out to search for him in this vast and oppressive place, tension rises between the two men. Even if they cannot admit it to themselves, each knows deep down that he holds a part of the truth.

Jesus, a humble Judean carpenter beginning to see that he is the son of God, is drawn into revolutionary action against the Roman occupiers by Judas -- despite his protestations that love, not violence, is the path to salvation. The burden of being the savior of mankind torments Jesus throughout his life, leading him to doubt.

The film follows the lives of Peter and Paul: two characters in different eras - Peter in the 1980s and Paul nowdays. Peter looses his sister in an accident and is banished from his home. In the present time Paul's sister has cancer and is fighting for her life. The two story lines intertwine and find a way trough God's providence to serve each other for good.
