For young Parisian boy Antoine Doinel, life is one difficult situation after another. Surrounded by inconsiderate adults, including his neglectful parents, Antoine spends his days with his best friend, Rene, trying to plan for a better life. Tasuku is a high school senior taking care of his single mother Misaki, who has ALS. Though they have a helper who visits during the day, Tasuku still has to take care of cooking and housework, as well as helping his mother use the toilet. Because of this, he's had to quit the basketball team. Tasuku hasn't been focusing on his future plans, since he feels like it wouldn't matter in the first place. But when his mother gets approved for more caregivers, he suddenly has the chance to pursue his dream college. But can he really leave his increasingly infirm mother behind?

New Jersey teen Daniel LaRusso moves to Los Angeles with his mother, and soon strikes up a relationship with Ali. He quickly finds himself the target of bullying by a group of thugs, led by Ali's ex-boyfriend Johnny, who study karate at the Cobra Kai dojo under ruthless sensei John Kreese. Fortunately, Daniel befriends Mr. Miyagi, an unassuming repairman who just happens to be a martial arts master himself. Miyagi takes Daniel under his wing, training him in a more compassionate form of karate for self-defense and, later, preparing him to compete against the brutal Cobra Kai.
