After a decade in the making, Townsend’s new composition, The Moth, tells the story of the human experience from birth to death. Together with the symphony orchestra Noord Nederlands Orkest, the narrative will be brought to life by an impressive seventy musicians, a sixty-member choir, and his own band (which includes Mike Keneally, Joseph Stephenson, Darby Todd, and James Leach). Best known for his groundbreaking metal, progressive rock, and ambient music, Devin Townsend has pushed the boundaries of genre across his 30-year career and established an unparalleled artistic legacy. The Moth will be staged exclusively in Groningen, and there have been no plans for global access - until now.

“István és Koppány,” the definitive Hungarian rock-opera by Levente Szörényi and János Bródy about the nation’s founding, returns for its 30th anniversary in a bold new staging by Róbert Alföldi. With unchanged music and lyrics, the spectacle unfolds on an 860 m², 21 m-high set, featuring 150 dancers and extras, a 60-piece symphony orchestra and a six-member rock band, all brought to life with redesigned décor and costumes.

A bizarre sci-fi rock opera like little else being produced under the banner of Canadian film at the time, Metal Messiah is about an enigmatic metallic-skinned stranger trying to stop society's self-destructive obsession with rock and roll. Anchored in Toronto's live music scene if the late 1970s, this dystopian parable was the feature film debut of local music impresario and director Tibor Takács. Working with screenwriter Stephen Zoller, Takács' film is a crudely crafted, episodic work that plays out like a glam version of Amos Poe's avant-punk NYC flick The Foreigner (1978), but with even more ambition, attempting to scale to the bombastic rock opera heights of films like Phantom of the Paradise (1974) and Tommy (1975). The rock opera, which was first presented in 1983, was a breakthrough in many ways, as its musical style combined popular, folk and church Gregorian melodies, which was the first of its kind in the history of Hungarian musical theatre. The musical backgrounds of the composers Levente Szörényi and János Bródy are also rooted more in pop music. The composing duo wrote the rock opera Stephen the King based on Miklós Boldizsár's drama Millennium. The MTV talent show starring the winners of the company (István - Pál Feke; Koppány - Imre Vadkerti; Sarolt - Enikő Éder; Gizella - Boglárka Simon; Réka - Flóra Herczeg; Torda - Attila Tóth; Táltosasszony - Szandra Fejes; Laborc - Lajos Varga) were presented one month after the finals, on 17 June, in the Papp László Sport Arena, directed by János Szikora.
