After his movie and television career has run dry, Bruce Madsen (Adam Carolla) is forced to go back on the road playing one dingy comedy club after another, spending endless nights in budget hotel rooms and always flying coach. Amidst trying to revitalize his career, rekindle his love life and put his daughter through college, Bruce knows one thing for sure - he must get off the road. ROAD HARD is the story of that journey.

The film depicts a couple who go on a trip to Hawaii to relieve their daily frustration and get caught up in various commotions. Written by Masakuni Takahashi ("Minatomachi Gentlemen's Record"), directed by Tomio Kuriyama (this was his first film), and photographed by Kosuke Yasuda. Theme song is by Davey Smith ("Itoshi no Lahaina").

Shiftless playboy Tom Collier lives to jump from party to party — until he meets photographer Christie Sage. Through Christie, Tom takes over the ownership of The Bantam, a liberal magazine that opposes everything his family represents. As Tom and Christie's relationship deepens, love blooms and he proposes to her. Realizing that she could never fit in with Tom's social circle, Christie says no, a decision she later regrets. But Tom isn't left alone for long — scheming gold-digger Cecelia Henry wastes no time in catching Tom on the rebound and forcing him into a disastrous marriage.

Johnny Kapahala, a teen snowboarding champion from Vermont, returns to Oahu, Hawaii, for the wedding of his hero -- his grandfather, local surf legend Johnny Tsunami -- and to catch a few famous Kauai waves. When Johnny arrives, he meets his new family including "Uncle Chris" (the 12-year-old son of his new step-grandmother) who resents the upcoming marriage. Chris's only interest is to join a mountain boarding crew led by a teenage bully. When Johnny's grandfather and his new wife open a surf shop that also caters to mountain boarders, they are soon embroiled in a turf war with a rival shop owner who wants to shut their business down.

Romolo, a man lazy and devoid of any interest, has been married for ten years with Ines, the owner of a small service station. Tired of supporting his despotic and demanding wife, Romolo searches for a way out and finds it when Orazio, a former fellow soldier, who lives by his wits, invites him to roam freely with him around the world.
