Badki and Chutki live a fun-filled life in Banaras, playing pranks, sneaking off to see a forbidden mujra, and soaking up all the excitement that goes on the ghats of the Ganga. Badki is aware that the family is in dire straits, but she and her mother protect Chutki at all costs. When things get worse, Badki decides to go to Mumbai and seek a living for the family.

Shambhunath Mishra, a retired middle school teacher is living a mundane middle-class life with his wife Manju Mishra in Gwalior. Life takes a complete turn for the Mishra family when a situation gets out of hand and it leads to a killing at the hands of Shambhunath Mishra. Mishra ji has very little time to plan cautiously to turn this into a “perfect murder” and leave no trace behind.

Belonging to a family that has a grandfather addicted to alcohol, Mohan Khanna (Raj Kapoor) too is addicted to alcohol, compounded by the fact that he is enamoured with a woman, Miss Reeta (Nishi), who is using him to extort money and vengeance from his Judge father, Kundan Lal Khanna. The only person who is really interested in the welfare of Mohan, in a practical way, is an aged and recently hired servant of the family, who has just been released from prison for killing two people.

A group of "friends" and "misfits", who had formed a popular yet short-lived youth theatre group, reunite for the first time after seven years on an eventful Durga Pujo night at their old rehearsal space, a bungalow which is about to be converted into Kolkata's first five-star heritage hotel by the Ganges.
