Enthusiastic emcee Taylor James (Tim Peper) leaves behind his home state of New Jersey when party planner Vanessa Dupree (Judy Reyes) hires him to work the busier New York City bar mitzvah scene. Tutored by slick Manhattan emcee Sebastian (George Valencia), Taylor spices up his wardrobe and becomes a more clever showman. Soon, he's a bar mitzvah celebrity. But when he has a disastrous problem with his glow-in-the-dark props, his career heads in another direction.

Jim and Connie's postwar New York building troubles keep Jim from working on his novel. Ex-WAC from Jim's army days Roberta moves in, further upsetting Connie but pleasing Jim's friend Ed. Tenant Charley, who marries tenant Eadie, loans money to Jim to help him keep the building, money which this Casanova obtains from rich widows.

A white dropout struggles to become a cartoonist and filmmaker, drawing inspiration from the harsh, gritty world around him. Still sharing his rundown apartment with his middle-aged parents, an oafish slob of an Italian father and a ditzy nutcase of a Jewish mother, he's ridiculed and looked down upon by his friends, hypocrites who run with violent gangs and the Italian Mafia, and a shallow Black girl who makes her living downtown with the pimps and pushers. The cartoonist gets a chance to pitch a film idea to a movie mogul, but the story proves too outrageous: a far-future Earth, depleted by war and pollution, where a mutant antihero challenges and kills God.

The old Spanish filmmaker Luis Buñuel (1900-83) imagines a movie plot, set in Toledo in the future 2002, about the fantastic adventure of three actors, who play him and his friends, the painter Salvador Dalí (1904-89) and the poet Federico García Lorca (1898-1936), and their search for King Solomon's table, a mythical artifact capable of revealing the past, present and future.
