DRIVER is a soulful exploration of resolute female long-haul truck drivers pursuing validation for their hard-earned work as they navigate the oppressive forces in their industry. Employing an intimate lens, Nesa Azimi’s first feature brings the audience into a community of solidarity and self-determination.

Through experimentation, direct observational filmmaking, and performative play, filmmaker Amy Reid rides and films with women truckers who have fled domestic violence, the stigmas of being formerly incarcerated, and mental health issues. The three subjects -- Sandi, Lori, and Tracy -- each share how they started trucking and what keeps them trucking.

This feature documentary shines a light on a group of women who are passionate about their non-traditional job – trucking. Filmed in 1999, it follows the women all across Quebec as they do their job and address the big-ticket items in life: love, family, freedom, and solitude. Filled with humour and the contagious good spirits of the women involved.

At the dedication of a new road sign, Dan McGurk tells the story of his forebears and how they helped transform rutted dirt roads into the modern highways of today. He speaks of the benefits of the trucking industry and how it depends on the nation's roadways, and he rails against regulations that make the industry less efficient and profitable. After recounting the amounts the trucking industry pays in taxes, he watches the unveiling of the sign naming the highway The McGurk Way.
