Jenny is hit in the head by a soccer ball. When she comes to, the clock has turned back exactly 32 years! It is June 21, 1974, the year of the football World Cup, one day before the football match between the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR. Jenny experiences two turbulent days at the side of her future parents - in both parts of Germany.

In order to catch a basketball from the favorite team of his girlfriend's spoiled son, Fred poses as a numb, wheelchair-bound fan. But when he catches the ball, he also catches the attention of young, attractive filmmaker Denise, who wants to feature an invalid fan in an image film for the team. The one-off documentary tells the story of two women travelling by bike across the United States, from Canada to Mexico along the Great Divide. When Jess is playing for fun one day, her impressive skills are seen by Jules Paxton, who then convinces Jess to play for her semi-pro team. Jess uses elaborate excuses to hide her matches from her family while also dealing with her romantic feelings for her coach, Joe.

In a working-class quarter of Dublin, 'Bimbo' Reeves gets laid off from his job and, with his redundancy payout, buys a van and sells fish and chips with his buddy, Larry. Due to Ireland's surprising success at the 1990 FIFA World Cup, their business starts off well, but the relationship between the two friends soon becomes strained as Bimbo behaves more like a typical boss.
