A worm named Mr. Woim hitchhikes in the middle of the California desert alongside a bird named Mr. Boid. While driving there, Woim crashes Boid's car and they begin to hallucinate.

Desperately losing his mind while searching for a new pair of shoes, elderly Fred and his trusty talking Walker wander the City of Rott, saturated with thousands of rotting zombies driven to feed the blood-hungry worms residing in their skulls.
Johnny is a peaceful and forgiving worm until a human steps on him repeatedly. As a result, the worm becomes paranoid and angered at the human race, seeking revenge.
The early worm barely escapes the bird, again. In search of a way to get rid of the bird, he enlists the help of a cat, but the bird is too smart for the cat.
Peasant children Mytyl and Tyltyl are led on a magical quest for the fabulous Blue Bird of Happiness by the fairy Berylune. On their journey, they're accompanied by the anthropomorphized presences of a Dog, a Cat, Light, Fire, and Bread, among other entities.
A newly born bird is excited to explore the world. On its adventure, it finds others on its way, but doesn't understand a word of what is asked of it. As they explain, both the bird as well as the viewer begin to understand more of the language and by the end have learned a few words of Toki Pona.
