48 hours in the life of the Neugebauer family. The May weekend with a small family celebration, which was planned as peaceful and contemplative, turns out to be a kind of Rocky Horror Picture Show in Vienna's municipal housing estate. Just like the other residents, the Neugebauers are preparing for the impending Mother's Day.

On a warm spring day in 1924, house maid and foundling Jane Fairchild finds herself alone on Mother's Day. Her employers, Mr. and Mrs. Niven, are out and she has the rare chance to spend quality time with her secret lover. Paul is the boy from the manor house nearby, Jane's long-term love despite the fact that he's engaged to be married to another woman, a childhood friend and daughter of his parents' friends. But events that neither can foresee will change the course of Jane's life forever.

The story of a Mother's Day in the life of LALI (12) who lives alone with his severely narcissistic, alcoholic mother who physically and emotionally abuses and humiliates him. Despite all this, or maybe because of this, Lali's attachment to his mother is stronger than the average kids' - he sees his mother as the best mother in the world, even if he has to lie to protect this image. He escapes reality and prays to God at night, asking that his mother would change. But the sad reality remains that his alcoholic mother cannot give up drinking: she is only focused on herself, and cannot function as a mother. So Lali is left with an imaginary mother who only exists in his fantasies.
