Grandiene has been waiting for the day of resurrection, the day when the planets are in the alignment of the Grand Cross. Her children descend to the Earth to make it a realm of darkness for her. Ten years prior, Doctor Tatsumi of the Tatsumi Disaster Prevention Institute predicted this event, but nobody believed him. In 2008, disasters beyond the common sense of mankind "super disasters" were occurring frequently all over the world. It was the work of the evil organization Neo Terror that plans to destroy the Earth. In order to counter the super disaster, the United Fire-Defense Agency gathers five young elite members and forms a special rescue unit Rescue Force. Wearing reinforced suits, equipped with super vehicles and Rescue Tools, they explosively suppress the super disaster and protect people from the evil hands of Neo Terror. The keyword for the rescue's success is "Bombing completed!" (Bakuchin Kanryou!).
Extreme is an action adventure series starring James Brolin and centered around a Rocky Mountains search and rescue operation. Debuting on ABC on January 29, 1995, Extreme was the lead-out program which followed the network's coverage of Super Bowl XXIX. The show was unsuccessful and ABC canceled the series after seven episodes aired. The final episode aired on April 6, 1995, with six episodes left unaired. Following the failure of Extreme, the Big Four networks have largely steered themselves away from premiering new programming after the Super Bowl and have instead chosen to run special episodes of their own programming.
