Meet the mega-millionaires who hosted parties so epic that they're still being talked about today.
When you're one of the richest people to ever live, no price is too high to pay for an object of desire, no matter how expensive - or strange - it may be.
Lavish dining is the epitome of living it up, and these are the mega-moneyed gourmands who spent jaw-dropping sums in pursuit of the rarest, the richest, and the most forbidden food and drink money could buy.
The prized possessions of some of history's richest people haven't been castles, jewels, or fine art, but something more exotic.
Gold has always been the ultimate status symbol. It’s beautiful, virtually indestructible, and above all, incredibly rare. For these ancient figures, acquiring–and spending–huge stockpiles of gold was an all-consuming passion.
The philosopher Biggie Smalls once said, mo money, mo problems–and no problem has loomed larger for history’s crazy rich than how to keep themselves–and their multi-million dollar homes–safe and secure. These three figures broke the bank on security features designed to prevent break-ins.
We expect homes of rich people to be nice. We expect the homes of extremely rich people to be remarkable. As for these three crazy rich ancients? They built palaces that are literally some of the largest, most luxurious buildings to ever grace the surface of the earth.
Here’s a stone cold fact that not even the richest mega-millionaires can avoid: we’re all gonna die. These ancients realized they were destined to spend more time in the tomb than the throne room and spent big to build luxurious final resting places for themselves and their loved ones.
The average American couple will drop five figures on their wedding. That wouldn’t even begin to cover the tab that these big spending couples racked up while throwing history’s most baller nuptial celebrations.
The Bible says it’s harder for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven, but that didn’t stop these high rollers from trying. Meet the ancients who bankrolled the construction of massive churches and temples in an attempt to buy their way past the pearly gates.
Whether it’s private planes, private trains, or gold-plated limousines, the mega-rich have always flaunted their wealth by buying luxury vehicles. Even when the only vehicles to buy were boats, chariots, and horse-drawn carriages.
All rich people have the money to build a dream house. The richest people who have ever lived have the resources to dream a lot bigger. These industrial tycoons wouldn’t settle for building a single home because they had the resources–and power–to create entire cities from scratch.

One family has been fighting for over 70 years to recover what they say is rightfully theirs—a $28 billion treasure buried deep inside a mountain in the New Mexico desert. Some believe the U.S. Government stole the 16,000 gold bars and priceless artifacts, while skeptics claim it never existed. Now, the family and its supporters reveal exclusive evidence to prove their case and crack open the mystery of America's greatest treasure story.
Three hard-core crews of gold prospectors take the gamble of a lifetime and battle to strike it big, deep in the wild west of outback Australia. The soaring highs and the crushing lows of the gold season are revealed as the crews pursue their all-important targets - braving brutal heat, punishing conditions, mechanical breakdowns and constant pressure.
In November 1983, a gang of armed robbers stormed into the Brink's-Mat security depot near Heathrow and got away with 26 million pounds worth of gold. Now nearly 40 years on, police officers and key witnesses, many speaking for the first time, reveal the inside story behind Britain's biggest gold robbery.
Follow three families determined to break the 500-year-old curse of Emperor Montezuma and find the lost treasure estimated to be worth over $3 billion dollars. The series intercuts each family’s epic adventure as they search for the 7 Cities of Gold on three different properties in three different states – the Dillmans in Utah, the Hoaglands in Nevada, and the Villescases in New Mexico.
At the end of the failed robbery, all are isolated, injured or prisoners. The cops are on their trail and already, in the neighborhood, young people are trying to take the place they left. Outside, the world of organized crime seems far too wild for them. Will they be able to come together again and free Inès from the clutches of the dangerous Colonel Sekhou? Caught in the storm they themselves unleashed, can they save their skins?
One day, Doctor Kroch (Henk van Ulsen) receives a chest full of gold, accompanied by a half-illegible letter pleading for help. The doctor pays no further attention to it; the patient, after all, is asking for a cure for... gold fever. When the chest is later stolen by bandits Oenk (Tabe Bas) and Boenk (John Lanting), Doctor Kroch starts to think there might be more to it after all. He decides, together with his servant Valet (Henk Molenberg), to try to find the sender of the letter, the Duke of Woestewolf (Ton van Duinhoven). During his journey, the doctor is warned by Esmeralda, a gypsy fortune-teller (Elsa Lioni). Nevertheless, he continues his journey. “Ghosts do not exist. Everything can be explained by science,” the doctor claims. But the closer he gets to Woestewolf, the stranger his adventures become.
