Following the lifes on the Tyne and Wear Metro – the first time cameras have been allowed in-depth behind the scenes at the UK’s biggest metro system outside London.

In the first episode, it’s the start of the Summer, and the Metro staff brace themselves for one of the busiest days of the year. The Spice Girls are in town as part of their comeback world tour, meaning 50,000 fans from far and wide will be descending on Sunderland, putting additional pressure on the Metro’s already stretched resources.
Tens of thousands of Newcastle United fans pass through the Metro for a home game on the first day of the new football season - and many of them are far from pleased with the club's owner. A guide horse undergoes training on the Metro system before moving to London, and in Sunderland, a crackdown on fare dodgers gets underway.
In the third episode, the Metro's ageing fleet comes under pressure when a train breaks down in a tunnel near its busiest station. Meanwhile, track inspection supervisor Wayne has his work cut out repairing decaying sleepers which, if not quickly replaced, could cause a train derailment. And customer service manager Alan has to shelve his plans for a quiet evening after he's called in to deal with an outbreak of anti-social behaviour on the Metro.
All hands are on deck as the metro system prepares for the busiest day of the year - the Great North Run. This year, a new and untested station in South Shields is at the centre of things. One of the event's regular runners prepares for a personal return to the course, as he runs in tribute to a friend.

Driven was a motoring television programme launched by Channel 4 in 1998 as a rival to the successful and long-running BBC series Top Gear. The style was similar to its rival, but with additional features such as the "Driven 100", a road test of three cars in the same class, where each car would be given marks for qualities such as practicality, desirability and cost of ownership. The car with the highest total score would be the winner. The programme launched with the concept that the presenters should interact with each other rather than present items on their own, as was then the case on Top Gear. The first series also featured a "headquarters", a racing team truck, set on a former air force base at which cars were put through their paces. These concepts resurfaced in the reborn Top Gear soon after.
