Set in the 1970s, Tom Spader is an attorney who is determined to end what he has dubbed "the colored man's losing streak." When his winning of a high-profile case thrusts him into the limelight, he decides to move his wife and their two kids out of their mixed lower-middle-class town and into the posh enclave of Greenwich, Connecticut.

Fabris, a center-forward and the key player of the harbour town's football team, is a selfish individualist who is believed that he's irreplaceable in the first squad. He's also a womanizer who tries to seduce pretty Nena, a member of the working's committee and successful swimmer. However, she's emotionally close to Zdravko, who is, same like Fabris, a worthy center-forward himself.

Lucas, a teenage boy, moves to a small town in Norway from Stockholm, Sweden. He falls for Susanne, who is on the girl's football team and is dating the captain of the boy's football team. To get Susanne to like him he joins the boy's team so that he can travel to Oslo to participate in the Norway Cup, a large football tournament.

It is 1977, Dublin rocks to the music of Thin Lizzy and the world is stunned by the death of Elvis Presley. Frankie, caught between acne and adulthood, has just completed his final exams in school. Convinced he will fail, he survives the summer organising a beach party, having lustful thoughts about two girls he believes are unobtainable and fending off the advances from a visiting American family friend, all whilst coping with his oddball family.
