When Phillipe Charboneau, illegitimate son of an English duke, travels from France to England to claim his inheritance, he incurs the wrath of his father's family and is forced to flee to America, where he becomes involved in the events leading to the American Revolution.

When he comes of age, Philippe's mother reveals that his father is a British lord, who has acknowledged his French love child. Philippe travels from France to claim his birthright, where he is opposed by his legitimate half-brother.
In the American Colonies, Philippe finds himself involved with the Sons of Liberty, the American Revolution, and a woman. His half-brother and his seductive wife also arrive in the colonies.
