A look at the U.S. Army from the threadbare Minute Men who confronted the Redcoats at Concord in 1775, through the War of 1812, the Mexican War, Civil War, and the Indian campaigns. We learn of America's tradition of not keeping huge conscripted standing armies, using instead citizen soldiers responding to crises.
Investigates how American armed forces fared when thrust into foreign territory--from the Army's entry into overseas warfare as it battled unprepared through the Spanish-American War, the First World War, and the disastrous opening days of WWII. We see how the Army found its giants in MacArthur, Eisenhower, and Patton.
Beginning in World War II, we see how the U.S. Army turned the tide in Europe and the Pacific against both Germany and Japan, and how the tragic demolition of the great fighting machine during demobilization at war's end found the Army fighting for its life against a surprise attack in Korea and an Asian Dunkirk!
After the costly, bitter stalemates in Korea and Vietnam, the Army makes a dizzying transition to a new kind of outfit built on the twin towers of capability and courage. A revolution in recruitment, training, and high-tech equipment builds an awesome force made to vanquish the communist juggernaut anywhere in the world. The investment pays off in the collapse of the Soviet Union and the crushing of Iraqi aggression in the Gulf War.

Sharpe is a British series of television dramas starring Sean Bean as Richard Sharpe, a fictional British soldier in the Napoleonic Wars. Sharpe is the hero of a number of novels by Bernard Cornwell; most, though not all, of the episodes are based on the books. Produced by Celtic Films and Picture Palace Films for the ITV network, the series was shot mainly in Turkey and the Crimea, although some filming was also done in England, Spain and Portugal. The series originally ran from 1993 to 1997. In 2004, as part of ITV's new set of drama, ITV announced that it intended to produce new episodes of Sharpe, in co-production with BBC America, loosely based on his time in India, with Sean Bean continuing his role as Sharpe. Sharpe's Challenge is a two-part adventure; part one premiered on ITV on 23 April 2006, with part two being shown the following night. With more gore than earlier episodes, the show was broadcast by BBC America in September 2006.
Island at War is a British television series that tells the story of the German Occupation of the Channel Islands. It primarily focuses on three local families: the upper class Dorrs, the middle class Mahys and the working class Jonases, and four German officers. The fictional island of St. Gregory serves as a stand-in for the real-life islands Jersey and Guernsey, and the story is compiled from the events on both islands. Produced by Granada Television in Manchester, Island at War had an estimated budget of £9,000,000 and was filmed on location in the Isle of Man from August 2003 to October 2003. When the series was shown in the UK, it appeared in six 70-minute episodes.

Over the past 60 years Britain's Special Air Service regiment has carried out a wide variety of clandestine missions - from deep-penetration raiding to hostage release operations - which have made it respected and feared for its professionalism and daring. The SAS prides itself on doing its work in the shadows, never allowing any publicity and never claiming credit for any of its extraordinary achievements. But, over the years, sufficient information has emerged for a picture of the regiment's exploits to be clear. This series uses interviews with former members of the SAS; detailed and painstaking reconstructions; and cutting edge 3-D graphics to recreate seven great missions which show why the SAS is today regarded as the world's leading special forces unit.
